How did Sloan and I meet?

Sloan and I met through a mutual friend in February of 2015 in Fairhope, Alabama. We both lived in Fairhope and could not believe that we had never crossed paths before. We instantly hit it off and went on several dates in the weeks that followed. We loved each other’s company and decided to make it “official” on May 28th, which we claim as our dating anniversary 🙂 After being together for a short amount of time, we both knew that we were meant to be and would one day get married. Sloan loved saying, “let’s go to the place we first met, sit on the same stools, and start planning our wedding”! I always thought that was the cutest and sweetest thing for a him to say! He would say this before we were engaged, which goes to show you that we both knew we were each other’s person in life. On multiple occasions we would go to our meeting spot, just as Sloan suggested, to talk about wedding plans and our future together!

How did Sloan propose?

Saturday, April 8, 2017 was an absolutely gorgeous day in Fairhope and one that I will never forget! Sloan and I packed a beach bag and made our way to Mobile Bay for a little bit of sun bathing and relaxation. I soaked up the sun while Sloan sat next to me enjoying a book. I remember Sloan being incredibly quiet but I didn’t think too much about it at the time. Little did I know that Sloan was constantly thinking about the events that would take place later that day. I can almost guarantee you that he was not comprehending one single word that he was reading in his book 😉 We stayed on the beach for a few hours before heading home to get ready for the evening. I was getting ready for what I thought to be dinner with Sloan, his brother Trent, and several of Trent’s friends. Trent lives in Texas and was in town to play golf with a group of guys who he hoped to do business with one day in Fairhope. I guess I should add, that’s why I THOUGHT Trent was in town 😉 I knew that Trent would love to move back to Fairhope one day, therefore this was all completely believable to me. Trent wanted Sloan to meet his group of friends to also discuss future business ventures, which is why we were meeting them for dinner. This story was all part of a much bigger plan!

Around 4 o’clock that afternoon, Sloan and I made our way to The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama to meet Trent and his friends for pre-dinner cocktails. When we pulled through the gate of the hotel, there were cars parked everywhere! Sloan drove to the far back corner to park in the parking garage, which appeared to be the only place to park. One thing to keep in mind, the parking garage was on the complete opposite side from where we were meeting Trent. Little did I know that the place Sloan parked was all part of his plan. The Grand Hotel being packed DEFINITELY worked in Sloan’s favor. Being that we parked so far away from where we were going, we were able to take the scenic route around the pond to see the ducks! While walking alongside the pond, Sloan stopped and suggested that we take a picture. (Side note…Sloan picked this exact “picture location” weeks in advance). I assumed that we were going to take a photo together until he told me to step back a few feet so that he could take a picture of just me in front of the pond. I laughed and told him that I didn’t want to take a picture by myself because I would feel silly! Now that he had me standing in his planned “proposal spot”, he walked towards me and grabbed both of my hands. He started telling me how much he loves me and how he loves a list of things about our relationship. I put my hands to my mouth, in complete shock, and knew what was about to take place. My eyes filled with tears and I became as stiff as a board. I could not believe that this day had finally come! The day I had always dreamed of! Sloan dropped to one knee and opened a little black box that had the most beautiful three stone diamond ring staring back at me. He said those four little words that I will never forget, “will you marry me”! All that I could say was “seriously?…are you serious?…oh my gosh!…REALLY?!” I finally said YES (of course) and he slid the beautiful ring on my finger! We hugged, laughed, I cried, and we celebrated! Sloan grabbed my waist, turned me around and pointed to two photographers who were hiding behind a tree. I was so excited that he thought to have photographers there to capture one of the best moments of our lives.

After taking pictures with the photographers, we continued our walk alongside the pond as we made our way to celebrate with champagne at the restaurant inside the hotel. I asked Sloan if we were REALLY meeting Trent and his friends. He laughed and told me that was all part of his plan in getting me to The Grand Hotel. I could not believe he pulled that off! As we were walking towards the restaurant, I looked up and saw a large group of people walking towards us. As we got closer, I heard cheering and saw champagne flutes in the air. IT WAS OUR FAMILIES! I could not believe my eyes! I did not think the day could get any better but Sloan proved me wrong! This was literally the cherry on top knowing that our families were there to celebrate with us. We all laughed, hugged, and cried as Sloan and I told the story of the proposal. As a group, we made our way to the hotel restaurant for cocktails and ended the night celebrating at The Wash House for a wonderful family dinner. Sloan put so much thought into making the day so special. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing man to spend forever with! Thank you for reading the first chapter of our love story! XO – Lindsey

Why did we choose Carillon Beach for our wedding location?

I ran across The Meeting House on Pinterest and loved everything about the look and location. Sloan and I were staying in 30A with a group of friends for New Year’s Eve 2016. We were not engaged at the time but we discussed our future often! We live two and a half hours from 30A so we decided to take a look at The Meeting House while we were in the area. Sloan and I, along with our friends, drove to Carillon and walked through The Meeting House. It was just as beautiful in person as I remembered it being in the photos that I discovered online. Sloan and I knew that we wanted to one day have a destination wedding but wanted it to be close enough to where all of our family and friends could attend. Our Carillon Beach Meeting House wedding was the absolute best decision we could have made! Every part of the weekend was pure perfection! We truly cannot imagine a more perfect location and know that our friends and family agree. Sloan and I are so thankful for our parents, friends and family, wedding planner and fabulous vendors that helped make the weekend a dream come true.
